Interview with Dr. Brian Burton, Author of Mobile App Development With Corona
When I first started using the Corona SDK in December of last year, I was eager to learn as much as possible about what the SDK could do and where it was headed. When a Dallas Corona SDK developers meetup was scheduled in the Dallas area, I jumped at the opportunity to talk with other developers and meet Walter Luh, Co-Founder of the company.
During that meetup I met a lot of talented developers who were able to discuss the Corona SDK in-depth including Dr. Brian Burton, author of the book “Mobile App Development With Corona“.
As a college professor and app developer, Dr. Burton understands the power of change that mobile devices are creating. He is using the Corona SDK to teach mobile development to a new generation of mobile developers. Dr. Burton believes learning should be fun. The Corona SDK makes it possible for his students to quickly see the results of their work, which encourages them to learn even more about mobile development.
His approach intrigued me so much that I purchased a pre-release copy of his book. His book has helped me to better understand how to manage display objects using groups and how to develop more than just games using the Corona SDK.
I asked Dr. Burton if he would agree to do an interview to discuss the Corona SDK, how he is using it to teach his students, and how he came to write and self-publish his book on the topic. He agreed and you can watch the full interview above.
Overall, I have a deep appreciation for what Dr. Burton is doing with the Corona. The SDK is making mobile development more accessible to students, business owners, artists, story tellers, developers, and entrepreneurs who want to bring new ideas to the minds of millions of people. Brian is helping each of them understand the importance of planning and building their first mobile applications using Corona.
As a Corona SDK Ambassador, App Developer, Professor, and Entrepreneur himself, Brian understands the issues that concern indie developers the most. He is an excellent person to connect with on mobile app development and he is very personable to boot.
You can pick up a copy of Dr. Burton’s book, “Mobile App Development With Corona” from the Burton’s Media Group website where he offers more Corona SDK information and resources along with a collection of other mobile app development titles he has written.
I’d like to thank Brian for sharing his knowledge with the Corona SDK developer community and thank you for taking time to watch his interview. Hopefully we can get Brian to join us again later this year after he’s released his new mobile app titles.
That’s it till next time. Post a comment below if you have any questions about the Corona SDK.
