Geek Speak

  •  Apps World North America –  Last week Corona Labs hosted a booth at Apps World in San Francisco where had the pleasure of talking with over 200 developers, business owners, and IT managers. The two day event was gave us an opportunity to share Corona SDK and demonstrate how the SDK helps developers created apps 10X faster.
  • Here are just a few things we shared with booth visitors
    • Developers only have to learn Lua, which is a single, high level language, that can be picked up in about 10 minutes.
    • Cross platform development is possible using one code base.
    • Corona SDK has a built in physics engine, so you can create a complex world in less than 10 lines of code.
    • Fewer lines of code are needed to develop an app.
    • Corona SDK can be used for games, business apps, and interactive books.
    • The Corona Community is 200,000 developers strong.
  • Everyone who stopped by was amazed at what could be accomplished so quickly and many of them enjoyed seeing the instant updates in the Simulator after changes to the code were saved.
  • Community Updates – during the hangout we also discussed some of the new things that are taking place behind the scenes at Corona Labs. Some of the changes include working to enhance the Corona Ambassadors program, establishing more local events, increasing coverage of more industry events, and highlighting the efforts of Corona developers. Here are some of the things we are working on:
  • Ramping up the Ambassador Program
    • monthly newsletter
    • monthly hangout
    • cross talk (ambassadors supporting ambassadors)
    • getting plugged in ( event activities )
  • Support for more local Meetups
    • monthly online hangout
    • in-person events
    • creating an outline of topics
    • creating supporting materials
  • Coverage of more industry events like:
    • Global Game Jam
    • Apps World
    • SXSW

Closing thoughts

  • At the end of this episode we did a bit of a round table to give panelists an opportunity to talk about what they were working on. Here are a few of the things that were mentioned.
