Verbose debugging

The hard crash. We all know it. We all fear it. It’s no fun to run into an unhandled exception when you are really humming along in your IDE of choice. No matter how much you plan and how far along you are in your development cycle, it’s likely you’ll run into one of these problems.

In the thread below, we see a Corona developer running into an issue where they are seeing a Runtime error in a very large function, and it is very hard to find the needle in this particular haystack. Searching for help, some of the more experienced Corona devs came in to provide a bit more clarity to the situation. Mainly, why exactly apps crash and what causes it. It’s well worth a read, so head on down and check it out!

Additional steps for the business app

Recently, Rob Miracle posted a fantastic blog write-up detailing some of the updates to the business sample app included with Corona’s examples. Well-supported and informative, it covered a lot of interesting steps that can be used out-of-the-box for any productivity-minded app.

What wasn’t covered, was the concept of a login mechanism, involving account logging and encryption. It’s a complicated topic, and one that was broached in the forum, by an intrepid developer looking for some guidance. Fortunately, Rob again jumped into the fray in order to help this developer out, and in doing so, laid down some useful workflow logic for anyone looking to gain a better understanding of logins can work, bouncing against a third-party server for authentication.

Coronium for the uninitiated

When starting out on our Corona game development journey, one of the main stops along the way is getting our leaderboards set up. Giving players a tangible carrot to strive towards when toiling in your game world.

That’s where the road gets a little bumpy. Should you use GPGS? GameCenter? Both? A third party option? There are several different ways to approach the problem. Creator of the Coronium Cloud Platform Develephant was able to drop some base knowledge on the subject, and what exactly is required to hit the ground running with a cross-platform leaderboard solution.

Lots of good stuff in this thread, so I’m going to stop here and just tell you to click through!
