App of the Week: Elevator Joe

App of the Week: Elevator Joe

Elevator Joe screenshotSince childhood, Erick Garayblas has been fascinated with elevators. Stemming from the intrigue of how the machines coordinate with one another to fetch passengers on the proper floor at the requested time, Erick decided to create an elevator-based game. Riding on the coattails of Streetfood Tycoon, a game that’s enjoyed 9M+ downloads, Erick partnered with graphic artist Ryan Sumo to launch Elevator Joe in September 2013.

Elevator JoeElevator Joe is a time management and elevator simulation game where you have to bring tiny “Chibizens” to their destination floors as fast as possible. Along the way, you can upgrade your elevator, work through scenarios, unlock various items, and customize your tower. For every Chibizen you deliver, you receive Chibi Yens that can be used to purchase upgrades such as skill points, a new floor in the tower, and more. However, time is of the essence as Chibizens are a bit impatient and turn bright red when they’ve waited too long.

The game took Erick and Ryan four months to develop, with Erick focusing on coding and design while Ryan worked on graphics. Erick noted that, “Corona SDK made it easier for us to prototype, iterate, and improve the game as we moved along.”

Download Elevator Joe from iTunes or Google Play for a free and enjoyable challenge!

Looks great! Just wondering about the Japanese references (chibi & yen).

I’d also look forward to an interview with you guys about your development process. I’m in the initial phase of creating a game with a friend who would do the art as I develop the game play in Corona. I’m happy to hear that you got it done in 4 months.
